131050 Fletchers Arnie

Banded on July 28th, 2017
PTT Transmitter installed on July 28th, 2017
Fledged on August 16th, 2017
Began Migration on August 30th, 2017 and promptly flew approximately 560 miles to Evansville, Indiana!

After several physical surveys of the 20 nesting platforms at Fletchers Pond located just west of Alpena, a few hardy members of the Michigan Osprey team chose three nests with chicks suitable for outfitting with transmitters.
The number of unoccupied or abandoned nests as well as the the mortality rate was high again this year but we managed to find healthy and strong chicks aged within the 5.5 to 6 week window. These chicks stood the best chance of survival from their first flight (fledge) through migration to South America and back home to Michigan. The deployment date was set for Friday July 28th and the call went out to the DNR, Detroit Zoological Society and the USDA to join us.
